About our Biological enzymes!

In Proteos Biotech, all the enzymes are recombinant. We use the latest advances in genetic engineering to obtain pure, stable and less immunogenic enzymes than those purified directly from their source (i.e. porcine insulin). Protein recombination is a complex process that requires: special

facilities, qualified staff, specific compounds and methodical protocols of action.

Recombination process starts with a simple question: Which protein are we searching for?


PBSERUM MEDICAL has 3 enzymes of interest:

•Lipase: breaks down triglycerides.

•Collagenase: degrades collagen fibers.

•Lyase: breaks down polysaccharides in extracellular matrix.


After choosing the enzyme of interest, we need to make a bibliographic research to find out which is the best protein to be used for our purpose and the most adecquate way to obtain it.

Then, we need to develop the right manufacturing system, which has the following scheme:



•The purified gene of interest is amplified via PCR.

•Using the latest advances of genetic engineering we introduce this gene into the genome of the chosen microorganism, (in our case, a specific strain of Escherichia coli)

•Screening for adequate gene insertion.

•Growth of bacterial culture under controlled conditions.

•Induced overexpression (protein production) to obtain the highest quantity of protein.

•Purification of the protein.

•Sterilization and final manufacture.


A critical point in this process is the insertion of the gene, by means of genetic engineering, inside the bacterial chromosome. This is a very complex process that requires a deep knowledge about the gene we are working with and also about the bacterial chromosome. Choosing an adequate recombination system has a greatest impact in the success of the process.
